Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy is a modern spiritual teacher who dedicated his life to the service of humanity.

Sri Chinmoy established meditation centres in over 60 countries around the world. Members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre continue to give free meditation classes in cities around the world.

Born in India in 1931, Sri Chinmoy spent 20 years in a spiritual community in the South of India before coming to the West in 1964. Sri Chinmoy lived in Queens, New York until his passing in 2007, however, he frequently travelled around the world offering lectures, concerts and meetings with people dedicated to promoting a more harmonious world.

At the heart of Sri Chinmoy’s philosophy is the importance attached to the ancient practise of meditation. Through meditation a seeker is able to gain contact with his inner self and learn the art.

As well as meditation, Sri Chinmoy taught that the inner and outer life must go together. Sri Chinmoy himself was a remarkable model of abundance in the outer life. He was a prolific artist, poet, writer, musician and sportsman. Sri Chinmoy encouraged sports such as running. Sri Chinmoy also founded the Peace Run, a global relay run dedicated to promoting better understanding and friendship between people from around the world.
